Retail Tax Requirements

STATE OF COLORADO
 
A sales tax event license that is required by the State of Colorado Department of Revenue for the reporting of your sales tax on all retail (non-wholesale) sales. For more information on this license please download the following information here:

Special Event Sales Tax Application
 
Businesses that have no permanent place of business but sell goods at fairs, festivals, bazaars, etc. or businesses that meet the requirements for a standard sales tax license, but also sell at other locations, such as fairs and festivals are required to obtain a Special Event Sales Tax License using the Special Event Sales Tax Application (DR 0589).

Sales tax licensing and collection requirements apply to all taxable sales made at special sales events in Colorado. A special sales event is an event where retail sales are made by more than three sellers at a location other than their normal business location(s) and that occurs no more than three times in any calendar year.

Vendors without a City of Westminster business license will need to file a Special Event Sales Tax Return. That portal can be accessed here: https://etaxwestminster.gentaxcpc.net/tap/_/

 You may also instead mail a paper tax return with payment or bring it in person.

Credit cards are accepted only for online payment.
 Checks drawn on a US bank are accepted for mailed or in person payments.

Please note that the online return requires a US EIN or Social Security Number. The paper version does not require any US issued identifying number and is appropriate for foreign companies that are not based in the United States.
 
Both the State of Colorado and City of Westminster tax returns and payment are due not later than October 20, 2025.
